Former American Idol finalist Allison Iraheta and band go DIY, gear up for crowdsourced tour, and tease upcoming debut with bilingual single.
While 23 year old Los Angeles singer Allison Iraheta describes Halo Circus’ songs as “anthems for introverts,” basic human rights issues facing many people here in the U.S. and others around the globe, has Iraheta, of Salvadoran descent, outwardly questioning the meaning of freedom. Regarding the first single "Desire (Lo Que Vale La Pena),” which loosely translates into “What it all comes down to is desire,” Iraheta tells BitTorrent, "In this song, I'm thinking about freedom. Not the freedom we confuse for convenience, but the real freedom that is granted to every soul that enters a body on this planet. When one is oppressed, we are all oppressed. We are all born with the desire to love and the desire to defend it."
The song’s emotional core unravels as dry, in- your-face vocals, a touch of accordion, and a slight nod to 90's hip hop lead us into a hooky, driving chorus, complete with a recording of assassinated Archbishop Oscar Romero, known for speaking out against poverty, social injustice, and other important societal issues.
"We wanted to record something better than we've ever recorded, and we want to start a personal conversation with our fans," says Iraheta about the decision to go directly through BitTorrent.
Halo Circus recently made headlines announcing an ambitious, fully funded crowdsourced tour by partnering with Road Nation that will set the course for the band’s live dates in support of their debut album, due in May.
